We hiked on the "Quetzale Trail", up to the river resting there before heading back. I was surprised to see the river low, which is the Rio Caldera which flows along and through the town. Even though this was the beginning of the rainy season, the trail was easy to hike. On Saturday we normally have a two and half hour hike, sometimes we may hike up to three hours. Beginning at about 8:30 a.m. we ended around 11 a.m.
If you are interested in hiking from the Boquete Quetzale Trail to Cerro Punta the ranger can be your guide after Wednesday or you can do it alone. The park ranger stays at the station 24/7 for three or more days.
Driving to the head of the Quetzale Trail is not difficult. Just ask anyone in town and along the way. Or you can take a "colectivo" from town for a reasonable rate or take a cab at a higher rate.
The Boquete Birders group, walk on this trail at least twice a year. To hike the trail even if you do not hike all the way to Guadalupe near the town Volcan the entrance fee is $3.00 or $2.00 when you show your issued "jubilado card" which is expat, resident pension card.
Whether you are visiting Boquete or new to Boquete the Quetzale Trail is trail not be missed. Soon the Boquete Nature and Hike Group will all the way to Guadalupe.
